10) Blood Father (2016)
After his temporary infamy in Hollywood, Mel Gibson played several roles that seemed to reflect his personal problems of the previous years. One is Blood Father, in which he plays a recovering alcoholic ex-convict named John. He is wanted by his estranged daughter Lydia, who is in trouble herself and is on the run from gangsters. They both realize that they need each other if they are to live normal lives again. Together, John and Lydia embark on a journey to escape their pursuers, leaving a trail of corpses in their wake. Moving effortlessly from emotional drama to brutal action with plenty of uncensored dialogue, the film is another – but excellent – iteration of the classic story of a criminal who must atone for his past transgressions by saving another’s life. How Mel Gibson saved America in Patriot (2000).
9. District No 9 (2009)
Director Neill Blomkamp and lead actor Sharlto Copley have pulled off a masterstroke with this masterpiece of sci-fi action cinema, a powerful metaphor for human cruelty and xenophobia in general, and the apartheid regime in South Africa in particular. An alien spaceship appears over Johannesburg and the inhabitants live in camps under disastrous conditions. The bureaucrat Wikus van de Merwe is ordered to take the aliens to another camp. After the accident, he undergoes a grotesque transformation and begins to question his motives. Copley acts with such intensity that it seems like Blomkamp was constantly holding him at gunpoint during filming. The film is also full of spectacular and violent action, as Wikus and his allies must take on gangs and mercenaries with advanced alien weapons. And although Wikus is the main character, his interactions with the alien Christopher and his young child are some of the defining moments of the film. Christopher’s courageous and brutal fight for a better future for his son and the entire race is why District 9 is so deserving of its place on our list. Fast forward to the future: Is Hobbs and Shaw the best science fiction action movie ever?
8) Kick-Ass (2010)
Kick-Ass is a smart and charming production with plenty of humor and gory violence. The movie tells the story of Dave, a nerd who decides to become the superhero Kick-Ass. Even without superpowers, he manages to build a reputation as a vigilante. As a result, he attracts the attention of a local crime boss and two real-life superheroes who are not happy with his attempts to imitate him. The main character in Peepz is Dave, but the film spends just as much screen time on the relationship between the two fathers and their offspring. On the side of the good guys is Big Daddy (played by Nicolas Cage), who has dedicated his life to turning his 12-year-old daughter into a killing machine. On the other side is Frank D’Amico, a criminal mastermind, who just can’t decide how to raise his son. There’s a lot of blood spilled and bones broken on the way to their inevitable confrontation, which, combined with a goofy sense of humor, makes Kick-Ass one of the best superhero comedies. 7) The Last Boy Scout (1991)
Another iconic script by Shane Black has resulted in one of the funniest and most violent buddy comedies to ever come out of Hollywood, an uncensored and sometimes chaotic action spectacle. Bruce Willis, as private investigator Joe, and Damon Wayans, as professional football player Jimmy, who is addicted to gambling, work together to discover who killed Jimmy’s girlfriend. They’ve stirred up a hornet’s nest of political corruption, and soon not only are Joe and Jimmy’s lives at stake, but Joe’s family as well. Bruce Willis’ character could have been John McClane, who has taken some wrong turns in his life. He is certainly no role model for his daughter Darian and has completely failed as a parent. The only thing Darian has learned from him is to disagree with him, and in one of the many great scenes in this film, they get embroiled in an incredible insult contest. Bruce Willis returns for Die Hard prequel – McClane
6) Sudden death (1995)
Sudden Death is a great Die Hard clone and one of Van Damme’s best films. It is also the story of a father and his unconditional love for his children. Fire Marshal Darren works at the Pittsburgh Hockey Arena and takes his daughter and son to see the Stanley Cup finals. On the same day, terrorists took the Vice President of the United States hostage in the VIP area of the stadium and threatened to blow him up if they did not receive a ransom. Darren’s daughter, Emily, is also captured by criminals, and he becomes a one-man army to rescue her and everyone else in the audience. Van Damme not only does what he does best (beat people up and shoot them), but also plays the family man surprisingly convincingly. He is the perfect, kind and loving father who also has the ability to free his children from the clutches of former CIA agent Voss and his henchmen. Foss, played by Powers Booth in one of his great roles, is an articulate terrorist leader who takes a sadistic pleasure in harassing Emily, who nevertheless bravely defies him. Sudden death: Like Jean-Claude Van Damme in Die Hard…
5) Tasks (2008)
In Taken, Liam Neeson reinvented himself and created his own subgenre of action movies. A modern update of the Commando genre, Taken offers the perfect blend of excitement and action. It is impeccably executed and looks elegant enough to appeal to a wide audience. Brian Mills, a former CIA agent, witnesses his daughter Kim being kidnapped by a human trafficking organization while he is on the phone with her. With his special powers, he travels through Paris to hunt down and destroy the kidnappers of his daughter without any remorse. Liam Neeson’s excellent acting and intense physicality are the main reason why Taken has become a modern action movie classic. Liam Neeson in the movie Taken: The study of a modern action hero
4) Terminator 2: The Last Judgment (1991)
John Connor’s father is dead, his mother is locked up in an asylum, and the most unlikely creature becomes his father’s replacement: A reprogrammed T-800 sent from the future to protect John and his mother. Terminator 2 is one of the classic action movies of all time, and one of the aspects that contribute to its greatness is that director James Cameron brilliantly managed to create a close bond between John Connor and the T-800, inverting the traditional trinity of mother, father, and child. Since the T-800 has no fatherly instincts, he does what a good father should do: he protects John’s life at all costs from the T-1000, according to Sarah Connor: Of all the potential fathers that have come and gone over the years, this thing, this car, was the only one that came into consideration. 7 scenes that prove Terminator 2 is Arnold’s best action movie
3) Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989)
Dr. Henry Jones Jr. and Sr. fight and battle in the fantastic third installment of the Indiana Jones series. Harrison Ford is joined by Sean Connery, and together they form one of the greatest father-son duos in action movie history. After rescuing his father from Nazi captivity, Indy must endure constant criticism for his brazen approach to dangerous situations. The two men board a German zeppelin incognito and finally get to know each other in peace. The conversation cannot be described as harmonious, especially since Dr. Jones Jr. does not spare criticism of his upbringing (You cared less about me than you did about people who died 500 years ago in another country!) Eventually, for the first time in their lives, they develop a strong relationship, which shows how easy it can be to rebuild a father-son relationship when it is threatened by Nazis and supernatural forces. The heroism, happiness and action of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989).
2) Commando (1985)
Every child would love to have a father who is as caring and tough as John Matrix in the movie Commando. From the opening scene, we witness an overdose of happiness between father and daughter eating ice cream, making lame jokes and petting a fawn – the perfect life. But things quickly go awry when Matrix’s past catches up with him. His daughter is kidnapped by the henchmen of former South American dictator Arius, who wants to blackmail Matrix into participating in a military coup. Arius and his henchmen soon find out they’re dealing with the wrong father, and Matrix wreaks havoc at the cost of an incredible number of lives, blazing a trail of destruction through the land of Val Verde to save his daughter. Schwarzenegger talks about the fight scene in Commando that the studio bosses thought was too extreme.
1) Over The Top (1987)
The best Father’s Day movie is another cult classic from the 80s, directed by Sylvester Stallone. It is a modern fairy tale, the story of the final bond between a father and son created by tragedy. Lincoln earns a modest income as a truck driver. His wife, ill and separated from him, asks him to pick up his son Michael – whom he has never seen – from boarding school and take him on a trip. At first Michael rejects him, but as their journey progresses their relationship improves and Lincoln even introduces Michael to the art of arm wrestling. Over The Top is a sentimental and messy film, but it has an incredibly positive vibe. We are also immersed in the fascinating world of arm wrestling tournaments, with their eccentric but likeable characters. Stallone goes on like a saint throughout the film, always doing the right thing and trying to teach his son valuable life lessons that have nothing to do with beating people up for a change! Trucking, arm wrestling, and a father and son breakup story make for great family entertainment and the perfect action movie for Father’s Day! Up here: The chaos that became a masterpiece
