WaterTower Music is known for the quality of the music it has produced for movie trailers, but now it is offering the same at the same level for TV series. WaterTower Music has just released the music for TNT’s Animal Kingdom, which will run during the 2011-2012 TV Season.
TNT’s new original series “Animal Kingdom” was a dramatic thriller that tells the story of a teen who goes on a journey into a world of organized crime and conspiracy. The show’s music was composed by two-time Oscar nominee James Horner, best known for such scores as The Titanic, Braveheart, and Avatar.
WaterTower Music is pleased to announce the release of the soundtrack to the crime series Animal Kingdom, written by Alexis Marsh and Samuel Jones. The album was released on the 9th. July 2023 published, for the premiere of season 5 on Sunday 11. July, 9 p.m. ET/PT on DTT.
Composer duo Alexis Marsh and Samuel Jones began their career working with emerging filmmakers in Los Angeles after graduating from USC’s Screenwriting for Film and Television program in 2010. His first score for a feature film, I Am I Jocelyn Towne, introduced a DIY aesthetic where every instrument was recorded and played in his home studio, and marked his rise as a songwriter and producer with the film’s lead track, Chances (Gone Too Soon). Since then, the two multi-instrumentalists have produced music ranging in style from electronic minimalism to lush orchestral scores for feature films (We’ll Never Have Paris, Lila & Eve, Preservation, Equity, Next Gen), television shows (TNT’s Animal Kingdom, HBO’s Sesame Street), documentaries (Ingrid, 20 Years of Madness, Looking at the Stars), art installations (Alex Israel’s KBRZ The Breeze, As It Lays), and advertising campaigns (Pinterest, Glossier, Rimowa).
Animal Kingdom revolves around a family in Southern California whose excessive lifestyle is fueled by their criminal activities. When Jay Cody (Finn Cole) moves in with his grandmother Janine Smurf Cody and her sons Andrew Pope (Sean Hatosi), Craig (Ben Robson) and Deran (Jake Weery), he soon discovers the reason he has been hidden from them for years. Smurf and his boys make their living with armed robberies and other carefully planned criminal activities. To survive in this world, Jay must prove his loyalty to the Cody crime family.
This 19 track album, Animal Kingdom by Marsh and Jones, features original music from seasons 1 through 4, including Big Love, the main theme of the series by composers Atticus Ross and Claudia Sarn.
Marsh and Jones comment on the show’s music:
It’s fun to translate metaphors and adjectives into music. When developing the Animal Kingdom soundtrack, the producers used words like muscular, broken glass, snarky, and our all-time favorite, the bile-filled cackling that we can still laugh at five years later. Each season we shifted the score into new areas of what these descriptions might sound like, using pedals, modular synthesizers or extreme digital manipulation to shape the sound of the recorded drums, guitar and bass.
They’re moving on:
The main idea has always been to make it disruptive. The main tension for us is the contrast between the Codies’ success when they work together and their self-destructive behavior when they separate from the family – how at various times they yearn for independence, but then make painful choices that only bring them closer together. We have to carefully balance the musical elements to avoid sentimentality, to convey the seriousness of the situations, but also to provide moments of respite and lightness, so that the pressure does not become overwhelming.
