Cuthbert is a Scottish character actor whose career spanned more than 40 years and who appeared in over 80 films. Born in Edinburgh in 1907, his first film role came in 1932, when he was cast in the role of Sampson in “The Immortal Queen”, an adaptation of the 1820 novel “Memoirs of Sampson”, by John Galt. The last comic book character to appear in the third episode of Jupiter’s Legacy is a minor character in the series, as in the original story. In Colors of Clouds with Sunshine, we follow George Hutchens to his fairytale mansion and meet his butler Cuthbert. Played by Brian Tree, in the series Cuthbert is the usual stereotypical butler we’ve seen so many times before; in the comics he is too, but eventually he becomes Alfred from Batman George, and he supports his master in the most painful moments. Not much is known about Cuthbert, not even his name. He had been the butler of the Hutchens family for generations, following in his father’s footsteps. He and his wife continued to serve the same family in their large mansion in Los Angeles, California, and in their smaller mansion in New York. Cuthbert’s work brought absolute loyalty to his masters, but this was in no way mitigated by the new generation of Hutchensi : Mr. Hutchens was an alcoholic who often lost his temper in violent drunkenness, and Mrs. Hutchens suffered from a severe mental illness, probably schizophrenia, which made her as unstable as her husband. Nevertheless, Cuthbert does his best to serve the family and takes special care of his master’s son, George, who in turn will become a good gentleman, although he is an incorrigible womanizer with a penchant for risk. When the stock market crashed in 1929, the Hutchens were one of the few to retain their assets, and Cuthbert and his wife did not lose their jobs. However, a few years later, in 1936, they did not dare to do so: Mr. and Mrs. The Hutchens are dead, and George, now the only living heir to the family, embarks on a wild sea adventure with his best friend Sheldon Sampson. He had been away for two whole years, and when he came back, he was very, very different from the man who had gone on the trip: He now possessed incredible superhuman abilities, which he used for the good of others as a masked hero named Skyfox.
George trusted the man he considered a surrogate father and shared his secret identity with Cuthbert. From there, the butler began supporting him in his life as a masked crime fighter, helping him organize shelters in the mansion and even below it, and keeping in touch with other heroes of the Justice Syndicate. Even though George is now a superhero, Cuthbert continues to see him through his father’s eyes and worries about his growing loneliness: With his childlike attitude towards women, George had many female companions, but he could not find anyone to share his life with. Finally, for the first time in his life, George really fell in love with a model named Sonny. Cuthbert was glad that his master had changed his attitude and was considering a future with the lady, and he was secretly pleased when he finally….. proposed, but things didn’t go as planned, and Sonny turned him down because she wanted a more mature man by her side, not a perpetual man-boy. Cuthbert was probably the only person on the planet who knew how much George loved Sonny, and understood that his death was a turning point in the life of his young master….. and he was right. One day, George Hutchens just disappeared, leaving nothing behind: He donated his entire family fortune and ensured that Cuthbert and his wife received a more than generous pension for the rest of their lives, as well as the house in which he had grown up. When Utopist and Lady Liberty arrived and asked about Skyfox, Cuthbert could only tell them the little he knew: George loved Sonny very much, and his broken heart needed time to heal. He didn’t know where his master had gone, and to be honest, he didn’t even know if he would ever show up again.
Cuthbert is an intelligent and loyal man who has dedicated his entire life to his work and the family he works for. An old-fashioned butler, he has dedicated his entire life to the welfare of a family and is willing to do anything to help his masters… even going so far as to become the makeshift assistant to one of the world’s greatest superheroes.
